Missing a layer is not hard to do. Imaging below the overthrust is difficult. Seismic is at its best when layers continue to increase in velocities with depth. When you have an overthrust like this, it's possible that the velocities of the target formation are less than the Murihiku, making interpretation difficult. It is probable that the Tariki pinched out further west. This could mean that it is still a target later.
