I think it is associated with the strength of the US dollar compared to the AUD.
Its not only nickel its all the base metals but nickel was certainly the biggest loser.
The price on Nickel is currently US$6.39.
MCR break even is around AUD$3.50 - 4.00 for most of the mines so as I said short term volatility isn't going to matter much as there is still plenty of fat in the prices.

This is a good buying opportunity at this price.
