Depends on what you mean by tight…
You certainly don’t want to miss anything, and leave gaps others could fill. But the broader the scope the better.
For the record I don’t work in patents. I’ve just read it.
My understanding is that the “app” mentioned by @PigsMightFly is simply one component of the system, and multiple alternative sources of inputs are described in the system.
in a nut shell, the patent appears to cover the entire concept/process of configuring a hearing aid using industry standard prescription to suit the hearing profile of a user based on a self administered test, or even an audiogram produced by any other hearing test. Eg taking a photo of an audiogram with the app could then wirelessly tune your hearing aids to suit.
I believe @PigsMightFly is diminishing the value of the patent by claiming it just covers the hearing test app… rather it appears to cover the whole process for configuring a self-fitting hearing aid.
it looks to me it’d be hard for others to self fit hearing aids without infringing nuheara’s patent so i reckon nuheara is set to collect royalties for every self fit hearing aid produced for the next 19 years.
but don’t take my word for it. Have a read yourself.
