Yes of course. Chevron are into geothermal where it makes money. That's what capitalism is all about right? Therein is basis for the deluded who lack foresight along with their ranting that a move into renewables is an enormous global socialist plot involving all the world's scientists. Naturally, we won't see big oil move into non-profitable sectors in a big way.
But if those renewable technologies are allowed to evolve technologically into profitability in a supportive political environment, then universal adoption will lead to benefits even greater than just for climate control measures. But I agree with those that think a carbon tax is not the right way to go about it.
