Many "Big Oil" companies dallied with solar photocoltaics way back in the past during the first big run up of oil prices as OPEC tighhtened control over oil pricing leaving the "Big Oil" primarily as the big risk-takers, technology developers/appliers and distribution network managers...
Most left the solar photvoltaic field eventually and just gave up on it as most sensible business managers would...
Of course whree geothermal has been practical "Big Oil" has been quick to adjust and apply their technology inventory to develop it and of of course when it makes sense, why not...
If you were a evil strategist in evil "Big Oil" plotting and scheming to deny the angelic greens their polution free and bountiful supplies of free energy just there for the taking, you would certainly be interested in making sure that the focus was kept on 15th century bird-chomping/illness-inducing windmills and solar voltaics, both unreliable and weather dependent energy sources that leave the now "praying for a gust of wind or ray of sunshine" community ever adicted to the reliable energy that "Big Oil" provides...
But of course that assumes "evil strategists" in evil "Big Oil"...
