Matty don't know how you feel about the issue (and this post is in no way directed at you) but I have strong feelings (and need to rant) and I actually hope that the majors like Chevron and Conoco and Total WALK FROM INVESTING IN AUSTRALIA. I'll say it now that COE is my last investment in a company that has an Australian resource project.

Sovereign risk blah blah blah is as real in Australia over the past decade (and growing) and any banana plantation African nation. Socialist agenda and nationalism have and continue to bring down Australia.

You CANNOT put together long term resource project without surety of capital and capital providers want risk adjusted rates of return for investment and not some BS "cost plus" return. This is not Woolies.

If it is so damn easy, then whining people out there some put up there capital, get permits and development applications and drill exploratory wells (and see how expensive that it), find nothing (oh shoot have to raise more capital), drill again (hooray found some gas), determine it is commercial and proceed to development (oh shoot need a lot more capital). Oh and now we need pipelines and gas processing infrastructure too (you guessed it more capital). And all this to sell gas for a pissy $4/GJ????

This is not the USA with extensive infrastructure, plentiful gas resource basins drillable for a fraction of the cost which explains their $3.50/Mcf price (not even including all the "associated gas" produced as a result of drilling for oil, which they sell for anything).

Hydrocarbon E&P is expensive. $3/GJ days are GONE. All these whiners in manufacturing who want a cheap price .... increase the price of your goods to reflect the cost of goods sold (oh you can't because you wont be globally competitive ... hmm now what).

Gov't of Australia - get into the E&P business and we can have an energy industry that is as world class as the world class healthcare system we think we have. GAGco (Government of Australia Gas company) has a nice ring to it and predictive of the result.

    End of rant.
