A five-and-a-half-metre swell was recorded at the Cape Naturaliste buoy, 14 kilometres west of Dunsborough, at midnight.
At Rottnest, the buoy recorded swells of 3.5 metres overnight, but perhaps because of its south-westerly direction it did not have much impact on Perth's beaches.

The swell is the result of a strong low-pressure system, 2,000 kilometres south-west of WA, which has been forming over the course of the week.
