Can anyone explain the big trade that happens at the close most days? It's been a regular feature for months. It's usually at least a million shares and either boosts the closing price a little or maintains it. Yesterday it was more than two million shares, and it has often been higher. Last Thursday, when the total trades for the day topped twenty million, I failed to check how much of that was the big trade at the end of the day, but it was probably huge.
There may be some simple and obvious explanation, but my only conjecture is that someone has been deputed to gather shares during the day then hand them over at the end of the day with a profit margin.
This is possibly a naive question, but curiosity has got the better of shame and I'm asking it. TIA
