Quite simply,
QAN have been told too often to be beware of Singapore Airlines entering the domestic market here. They have taken the scare mongering to heart and have decided that attack is the best from of defence. Asia is a much bigger market that OZ anyway. Singapore Airlines market share could be greatly threatened by the introduction of a cheap competitor in to their market.
I must admit to little knowledge of the structure of the asian airline markets so maybe someone can im prove on my knowlege.
