REEFTON Mining has announced the recovery of diamonds averaging 0.57 carats from the first bulk samples taken from the Target 35 area of the 30 Metre Beach series at it's Skeleton Coast diamond project in Namibia.

The company said a total of 15 high quality diamonds have been recovered from bulk sampling at T35 so far, with the largest stone being 1.59cts and the total weight of the parcel being 8.6cts (+1.3mm – 14mm screen size).

The 0.57cts average size from T35 easily surpasses the 0.23cts average size for all of the diamonds recovered from the Skeleton Coast project.

Reefton is a third of the way through processing 4400 tonne bulk sampling program at T35.

The company said last month it would work towards a resource definition for it's mineral sands prospects on the Skeleton coast in the next eight months, and that wet concentrate production could commence as soon as 2007.

The mineral assemblage of sands in the ground includes 0.5 to 8.5% ilmenite, 0.1 to 4.7% leucoxene and 8.8 to 68.3% garnet.

Reefton chief executive officer Simon Gilbert believes the diamond and mineral sands could be co-developed.
