I'm assuming you are in Australia then of course I wouldn't expect you to see a gun very regularly if at all. If you are in another country like most of the world then chances are pretty high you'll come across guns a lot more regularly and not be phased by it because you'll be used to seeing them regularly, it's not that hard to follow and I've been consistent. Also just like America the people carrying guns the world over aren't carrying them out in the open.
