You have an example there. It was not individual persecution but group persecution.
Other exampkes include the Italians, Soviet Union, and Japan at roughly the same time. Today I would point to Venezuela in particular for rapid deterioration (Dprk cant get much worse)
When a persecuted group can say "f off" convincingly, who knows how many lives are saved.
