""It is obviously not a safe practice to overtake stationary vehicles within the area that a door can open to, yet cyclists continue to do so."

Maybe they are forced to due to inadequate room for the cyclists"

Not FORCED to do any such thing. They are entitled to use the road, so why get so close to a parked car?
Might have a bit to do with impatience, carelessness and a general lack of self preservation, or just plain stupidity.
    ............................................................

Question for all the bikies, what is the breakdown, by categories, of riders that run into car doors, and the link of course. Also the percentage of passenger doors, compared to drivers side doors, that are flung out in front of them and the most prevalent location of these collisions.

Cyclists have the same rights to use the road as a motorist, plus in some areas have the added luxury of dedicated bike lanes.
Must be the cyclist doing something foolhardy/risky to have such a problem with car doors. Even have to re-write the dictionary for their made up terminology.
Conservatively there would be 1,000 cars on the road to every cyclist, yet it seems that only cyclists regularly run into doors, (that are so recklessly flung out in front of them).
Who is having all these problems, is it the mum, dad and kids riders, the commuters, or the lycra clad velodrome refugees?

Seems a bit lax on the motorists behalf that they are not tearing a few doors off parked cars. Need to lift their game and help the cyclists workload out here.
Be about time that cyclists woke up and realised that when a car is parked, there is a fair chance that someone will open the door to EXIT the car, not to spoil their head down, bum up, sprint through city streets.
