Award-winning newspaper cartoonist Bill Leak remains in intensive care this morning after suffering serious head injuries in a balcony fall over the weekend.
Mr Leak underwent a second bout of brain surgery at Sydney's Royal North Shore hospital yesterday, following a seven-metre fall at a property on the New South Wales central coast on Saturday.
The 52-year-old is a cartoonist for The Australian newspaper and he has won two Walkley Awards.
He also paints portraits and has entered the Archibald Prize 13 times. Leak won the Packing Room Prize twice and also won the People's Choice award for a portrait of Federal Opposition Leader Malcolm Turnbull.
His colleagues at The Australian newspaper say they are shocked, and have described the fall as a freak accident.
