A growing number of people are flipping their PPOR-not their IP's-because profit accumulated from flipping your PPOR incurs no CGT. And the government may tamper with Negative Gearing and CGT but that won't prevent the rising Asian affluent from waltzing into Australia and paying cash, either.

In saying that, Australia needs population growth to keep the economy moving forward and any government intervention will only result in less (not more) investment in housing in the coming years as our population continues to swell. Thus regardless of short term fluctuations, in the long term, yields will definitely move higher as demand outweighs supply.

Moreover, blind freddy is starting to feel the medium term headwinds facing the Australian economy and witness the high level of volatility in global share markets. So it would be a seriously dumb move to implement any policy that increases those headwinds and unnerves the consumer to a greater extent-and people that disagree now may think differently in the future when they are standing in a queue at Centerlink.
