FPP-Bim and the Myc inhibitor. Is that two compounds or a single compound? The penny has only just dropped that the collaboration will develop and carry forward towards pre-clinical development, a single compound.

Refer slide 58 of the January 2017 presentation titled Potent activity of a single compound FPP-Bim-Omomyc-FPP bispecific in EuMyc lymphoma cells. The FPP-Bim is joined to the Myc inhibitor by a reducible disulphide bond to create a bispecific compound.

Bispecific molecules are single compounds that bind two distinct targets. Genentech have an interesting article on their website in relation to bispecifics titled Hitting Two Birds with One Stone.

The two birds in our case refer to two of the biggest targets in cancer. Hitting Myc has proved so elusive that it became one of the Grand Challenges. Hitting both Myc and pro-survival proteins together with one compound would be a scientific phenomenon.

Its interesting to note in the announcement of 5 December 2016, that Phylogica make the point that ONJCRI is integrated with Austin Hospital in Melbourne which 'enables its strong track record of translation of research to the clinic'.
