There is now the seemingly contradictory situation where the aluminium producers require a more expensive input to become more profitable. For aluminium producers the problem is not simply that the price of graphite is too high (they are already using it), it is that the price would rise even further if they wanted to use as much as they ideally could and existing mines would be exhausted at a much faster rate.
This is a case where the miners must lead and the demand will follow.
