These companies always (well almost) do very well from the start, they are launched with backing of both heavy weight VC backers & have big pharmaceutical companies putting a big bit of the backing into their launch. They often remain privately listed companies & then get bought out not to long after their launch as Sanofi has set themselves up for. I do see the comparisons but really they are in a whole new league from the word go. It really just comes down to straight science with no need to attempt to market the company or appease shareholders. The money is in place up-front & market conditions do nothing to create / or place value upon it. The whole thing of public VS private often it works much more favourably & often it's snapped up by the majors after being lauched as it was - also stays well clear of the whole disclosure argument.
