Even without ethanol mandates or biofuel subsidies, the main driver of food towards fuel is the PRICE OF OIL. Food is fuel so if it is not ascribed value when oil is hyperinflating then increasing amounts of food and land will move across to producing for energy markets. You can hardly blame farmers for wanting to best returns on offer so they can pay for hyperinflated fuel, fertilizer, machinery, pesticides and labour costs.
