critical analysis of many other forms of saving greenhouse gas emissions show that when energy inputs are fully accounted for, there may not be any savings at all, or else they will only start to become positive many years down the track, as long as the technology is not superceded and junked in the meantime.
In the same way, trying to lock up carbon emissions in a bio-degradable plant, ie trees, if looked at over the full lifetime of the tree and it's eventual decay, achieves political points in the short term, but no permanent positive impact over the longer term.
