The EU decreed that 5.75 percent of petrol and diesel must come from biofuels by 2010, rising to 10 percent by 2020. The U.S. added to its 51 cents-per-gallon ethanol subsidy by mandating a five-fold increase in biofuels production by 2022.
Government has turned the food supply into a subsidiary of the energy industry. Already 28 percent of U.S. grain has been diverted into fuel production. Its value as fuel is higher than its value as food - this has led directly to grain shortages and food inflation.
It amazes me that people that would be all over a statement from a member of the oil industry about global warming just accept at face value a statement from a member of the fertiliser industry about grain-price inflation. What possible vested interest could he have? Puhleaase!
