Its funny when you consider wheat and rice are NOT used for biofuel production yet their stocks are as perilously low as the biofuel grains of corn and soy. Far more complex than just biofuels ... underinvestment in capacity (both grain and inpputs), depleting aquifers, bad weather, pestilence, rogue regimes (eg Zimbabwe), diseases, opposition to new technologies (eg GM, minimum tillage), ideologically flawed food production regimes (eg organic yield half the volume of conventional), lack of human capital (average age of a farmer being 58), salinity, soil acidification, nutrient deficiencies, desertification etc etc ... the bulk of the world's farmers have been marginal for profitability for nearly 40 years.
