Biofuels output likely to rise
From Herald News Services January 3, 2011
Fuel - German bioethanol sales are likely to rise strongly in 2011, the chief executive of German biofuels industry association VDB said.
German imports and exports of green fuels could be disrupted in early 2011 because other European Union countries failed to implement EU rules that biofuels must be produced from crops certified as from sustainable farming, said Elmar Baumann.
From January, Germany will permit a maximum 10 per cent bioethanol content in gasoline, up from five per cent.
The raised blending is likely to increase 2011 bioethanol sales to around 1.5 million tonnes from an estimated 960,000 tonnes in 2010 and 903,000 tonnes in 2009, Baumann said.
