biotech red hot right now

IPO's for biotechs have been coming thick and fast in the last 12 months and that trend is set to continue according to a spokesman for one organisation that tracks IPO's.

"Of the 15 companies that filed for initial public offerings last week, five were health-care related and four of those were biotechs. Sweet added another three biotech firms filed papers of their intentions to go public late Friday.

“Biotechs are red hot right now, especially those with collaborative agreements with big pharmaceutical companies,” Sweet said. With patents running out on a slew of drugs, many big pharmaceutical companies are looking for new product lines and thus investing in start-up biotechs with promising ideas. Sweet says it’s safe to assume that those companies with strong backing could wind up being acquired by their investors."
