re: bird-flued pigeons/ canada/epsilen/imu
I don't agree with you. Lets take TB that we are all innoculted with when we are young. That gives us antibodies to fight off the disease if we come in contact with it. So if we were all examined by the Australian Agricultural Dept, we would all be diagnosed as having tuberculosis and sent to an isolation hospital or 'put down'...as were the pidgeons. Same with polio, measles, whooping cough etc. If we have a bird flu epidemic, we will be vaccinated and given antibodies to fight it off; but don't tell the AAD or your life may be in danger. As for IMU who are working on a vaccine for chickens, why bother because the vaccinated chickens will be 'put down' by the AAD because they will then have H5N1 antibodies. The reason I am interested is that when I was young I didn't require a TB injection because I already had antibodies due to contact with a relative who had TB. I didn't catch TB, my body was healthy enough to make its own antibodies against the contact. However, if it had been a closer contact then I have no doubt I would have caught TB. I think air travel toughens up our immune system rather than weaken it due to the multiple contacts with various diseases. Sure the line is thin between rejecting an infection and catching it, but we all deserve more intelligent information from our governments.
