just biology doing what it's always done. Viruses mutate and attack hosts. Those with strong enough immune systems develop antibodies and thus become resistance to infection and stop the spread of said virus. I think that's how it works anyway....
MSM is having a field day with fear-inciting narrative, and preying on the public's tendency to panic. A global event is even juicier because political fingers can be pointed at who is to "blame" or who's not doing enough, to help reinforce other existing narratives and agendas.

I'm not discounting the existence and reality of the virus but hype is definitely the word for it. I saw a mid 20s hipster looking dude at a Coles in suburban Perth the other day wearing a face-mask and I just thought WTF are we doing that here now. Only person i've seen so far. He could have been wearing it for any number of reasons though, i guess.
