I remember in the first few weeks of independence when the people were starving, bags of rice could not be unloaded because the labourers refused to work unless they were paid more money. One overweight heavy sat on a bag of
rice, arms crossed & glaring sullenly at the reporter. Be a long time till they get back to the relatively peaceful times of a Portugueses island paradise. Fortunately
Gusmao & Horta seem to be good leaders in spite of the
malign influence of the fretilin (?) party with all its stalinist tactics lurking at every level. Wpl would be MAD to try & run a business with that bunch of thugs controlling the workforce. We have enough trouble with crooked unions & greenies in Oz.
