Been a downloader since napster and limewire first hit the net... gee that is now going on at least 15 years now, then first torrent I used way around 2003 I would say for memory.
Our net speed is fast as we need it (normal movie d/led within 7mins which is enough time to make a coffee and popcorn), we take the cheapest internet bundle, which means the smallest amount of data. The limited data is enough for us to do normal surfing, business, emails, etc... etc... during the month, then just a day or 2 prior to the renewing of our monthly data, download everything we want in a 24hr period. Hence why live streaming in our situation is not good, cause our data limit would be gone quicker than we expected it to, unless we upgrade our plan.
In the 12+ years I been downloading shows never have I got myself a virus. Limewire was notorious for virus, but if you knew what a fake file(s) looked like you knew to steer clear.
Have my old laptop connected to our tv permanently through vga cable and speakers which connects through wifi to access tv/movie content. Just turn it on and watch as you see fit.
Call me old fashion, but in the end it works perfectly for us at a cheap price. Personally I think your comment of torrents being "old fashion" might be a bit incorrect but everyone is entitled to their own opinions.
