This story is almost identical to a version I read early in the pandemic and commented here, and again just recently, however, the 'miners' were farmers. They went to the mine shaft (although I recall a cave (possibly incorrectly) to dig the guano for fertillizer for their farms. Maybe they were miners who had farms, a typical scenario in rural China.
They all became sick as described and the case was handedover to Dr. Zhengli from the Wuhan Institute who then went to the site. This was in 2012.
As the new researchers have probably learnt, the miners sickness was a predecesor of SARS2.
