it's all about closing down the ion channel gateway of the E protein that has infected the host cell's Golgi Apparatus / Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER), the central nerve for numerous functions of cells. The Golgi/ER is highjacked by the virues, specifically E, which then buds from it new virions through ion channeling. Close down the channel and viral load immediately decreases or stops as shown in the viral load reduced count in previous trials. This in turn greatly reduces the later effects, like organ inflammation, particularly lungs, that would normally occur with the continual production of virus particles. In mice trials to date all this has been greatly reduced and the benefits to mice is a continual weight gaining happy life.

A similiar mode of action occurs in HIV patients, but with a more responsive immune system and the unmasking of reservoir hidden HIV cells.

Back in 2004 Biotron showed for the very first time how to close down this gateway mechanism in coronaviruses (see first post this thread) including with SARS-CoV-1 and then went onto to repeat it with all the known other dangerous corona viruses to date as can be seen if you read the patent mentioned above or their individual papers.

At the time of SARS1 in 2002/3 they were also achieving the same in vitro results with the corresponding voroporin in HIV, the Vpu, and soon afterwards, HCV. SARS1 was all over after 9 months although Biotron continued doing their wok with coronaviruses for several more years. They published again in 2006. Hexamethylene amiloride blocks E protein ion channels and inhibits coronavirus replication. Other viruses that entered the human world were also tackled, seemingly not as successful.

What is interesting about all this is how the ducks of scientific enquiry are aligning, just like I referred to this afternoon in the Darwin/Wallace case. Sooner or later diverse individual scientists or goups these days, understanding of the natural world in a specific area eventually converge. With coronaviruses this took a leap forward after SARS1, and with regard to Biotron, the intervening years since until the present pandemic have provided plenty of practice and refinement of the methodology for working with viroporins, especially with HIV. THe C19 pandemic has brought home the bacon, so to speak.
