BIT225 may not have been designed for SARS2, but it is an anolougue of the compounds that were used on SARS1 that did manage to stop the viroporin gating. And of course, it has done the same in other RNA viruses since, and brilliantly so far on SARS2.

As for its exact mechanism in achieving this, as far as the most significant results of the trials are, that is, the moderating of cytokines, it is likely that the viroporin activity has reduced enough, if not entirely stopped, and interfered with viral assembly and release, so that replication is prevented, relieving the immune system from over expressing. As such, health is maintained and the lucky mice continued to thrive.

But we'll have to wait for the details....... which are unlikely to come anytime soon.
