That's a good point. The blockchain technology is a game changer for currency (and many other things) and will live on if Bitcoin does not.
Bitcoin was the original cryptocurrency but faces a lot of threats from competitor coins. Whether it is still as popular 10 years from now, I don't know. But the blockchain will live on.
