    I agree that has been the way thus far. But none of major brands (bal, a2) had any real market presence in China before their products boomed. Hence they needed to be a success in oz before they were picked up in China.

    I don't believe that logic is going to hold for Blackmores IF. The consumers in China know Blackmores. The fact the brand has such a following in china that conventional wisdom (that they need to succeed in oz) wont apply. Consumers know the brand, they trust the brand. And there is much more emphasis on the trust relationship here than in Oz.

    Because of that I think the excess stock in supermarkets here will end up being a good thing. So when the IF is run off the shelves in China, our daigou friends will pick up the slack, then que the media circus, to which Blackmores can respond that Aussie mums and dads didn't want the product, keeping the brand image strong in oz!

    OK, that last part could be a bridge too far... ;p

    And online sales to me reflect a lack of awareness rather than lack of demand.
