If you tell yourself that you will get the virus, you will get it. The masks are mach more effective for the individual with the virus because the virus spreads from droplets through sneezing or basically saliva when one is talking. Another mitigating feature is to wash hands constantly because this is where hands are constantly touching objects in public spaces then gets transferred to the facial space.
I am not in the medical field, just plain common sense.
