You've taken this issue very personally, and your response is unhelpful and even a bit nasty. The question itself related to a genuine observation and was respectfully framed. I think the poster deserved better.

Sale pricing, and the decision about whether to participate in a sale at all, is a complicated mix of many factors, including:
    1. Year to date sales performance. Does the company have to "catch up" and convert inventory to maintain cash flow? Are volume contracts with suppliers at risk?
    2. Inventory / warehouse / store stock levels. Does ageing stock need to be shifted before it becomes unsaleable? Is space required for new stock coming in that can be sold at full price, offsetting margin erosion from the sale prices?
    3. Market positioning. Does the company need to sell at bargain prices occasionally to maintain a competitive position in its target market. Discounted sales makes customers hesitant to buy; preferring to wait in case a sale is coming. Discounting can also erode the market's perception of the product's quality. Some companies never discount their products, and some even promote the fact with pride.
    4. Ideology. Do the people running the business see any relevance in running a special sale on the first Friday after a day we don't celebrate in this country?

The managers clearly decided that the intangible and financial costs of discounting for Black Friday would be balanced by additional sales at the 15% for minimum $150 level.

If you're interested in more detail, why not email the company's investor liaison contact and ask. I think you would be pleasantly surprised at how forthcoming listed companies are about responding to genuine requests for enlightenment. If you you, I'd be very interested to know what they tell you.
