I had also read that black holes aren't really 'black' and that they actually get hotter as they get smaller from emitting this radiation.
Apparently they have insane long 'lives' but eventually they radiate away all their mass, getting hotter and hotter, until they explode in a spectacular display.
We won't be around to see it, because apparently it's hundreds of billions of years in the future, long after the last stars have died out and the entire universe is dark.
