Proper nationalism is where you put the current leaderships idea of your countries goals above your own wants and needs.
Socialiism is where you put the leaderships idea of what is good for society above your own wants and needs.
Both fail because the leadership is always human and they believe that them staying in power is best for the nation and society. This doesn't change even when nepotism and corruption are rife.
