There's another company on the ASX "attempting" to manually hand sort & recycle mostly alkaline batteries on a small scale (a few thousand tons per year) using a pyromet process, where some of the valuable minerals are incinerated away. The information I've been given from another HC poster who follows that company closely, is the black mass goes for around $1,000 a ton. But that figure would change as the mineral content varies from one battery type to another.
Considering NMT will be recycling the more valuable lithium batteries, also filled with nickel & cobalt, using a hydromet process, I'm assuming NMT/Primobius will be earning more than $1,000 a ton for black mass as they can recover more of the valuable minerals.
Like Loop says, we'll find out in due course.
