Back in those days I'm sure the poultice was just velvet soap put under a bandaid, anyway whatever it was it was, was changed every couple of days , then after about four changes the splinter appeared, this was back in the days when we used to use thistle milk to get rid of warts......A funny thing also about velvet soap, we used to put a cake of it in a diptin along with gum leaves and throw it in the Murray river, after an hr or so we would drag it in and there would be 8 or 10 shrimps in there, great silver and golden pearch bait in those days....
