I would guess that once a sitting government and more importantly the nominal leader in PM, embarks on the road to holding onto power regardless of the lies and deception that become necessary, like Gillard's carbon-dioxide tax election lie, then additional lies like cooking the books to manufacture a balanced budget become relatively small potatoes...
I guess this sort of cascading, serial lies are somewhat a textbook case of "Oh what a tangled web we weave..."
Certainly the ongoing Gillard/Swan/labor/green/union-boss socialist alliance seems to have such a complex weave of minor falsehoods to outright lies that I guess the complexity of the web of lies and deception becomes self sustaining and self feeding...
