Victoria faces a higher risk of blackouts this summer due to a shortage of reserve power in the national energy market.
Australia's energy market operator, AEMO, has warned that the nation faces an "increased risk of energy shortfall over the next 10 years", and that the biggest risk of blackouts is in Victoria and South Australia in 2017-18.
The risk of power shortfalls over the next decade is driven by the possibility of extended summer heatwaves, and the risk of an unplanned loss of output from major generation sources, including coal-fired power, wind and solar.
"The overall responsiveness and resilience of the system is at risk," the market operator said in its 10-year forecast of the nation's energy outlook, released on Wednesday.

The Greens want the coal industry oblitered. GetUp is devoted to this. Mr Shorten is a founding member of GetUp and gave it $100,000 of AWU's funds despite GetUP's avowed intention is to destroy AWU coal mining jobs

The ALP has a 50% RET and is running with the hare and hunting with the hounds on the place of coal in our energy mix

The LNP is feverishly trying to cobble together an energy policy that will see the current high price of energy dramatically lowered.
There is no doubt but that coal will play a vital role
