Reading up on the mine geology i can see there are 4 shallow seams and they were in the thickest seam 3 when mining ceased. Seam 4 is deeper but i cant find any free info yet on how deep it is. Apparently seam 4 is 5 to 7m thick.
Also read that the shallow seams are permian and that there are deeper older deposits in the Bowen basin but i don't know if they coincide with the Blair Athol mine.
With UCG very close to full approval in Qld mines with depleted shallow coal may be attractive to Linc if they have deeper beds uneconomic to mine with conventional methods. Maybe more flogged out mines will be gifted to Linc from now on with a donation towards decommissioning cost?
