"For public consultation: draft Water Act project plan 'Nature-friendly bank and application of Phoslock® Bleiswijkse Zoom' On 8 July 2019, the Head of Water Systems department of the Schieland and Krimpenerwaard Water Board adopted the draft Water Act project plan 'Nature-friendly bank and application of Phoslock® Bleiswijkse Zoom'. The Bleiswijkse Zoom is a recreational area with the function of swimming water. The water quality does not meet the standards set for the bathing water function, nor does it meet the water quality objective (Water Framework Directive). In recent years, negative bathing advice / warnings have been issued for long periods of time in the summer months because the amount of blue-green algae in the water exceeds the standard for bathing water. Recovery measures are necessary to improve the water quality and the recreational function of the Bleiswijkse Zoom. The Water Board therefore intends to implement the following measures: 1. adjust the water inlet from the (in-between basin of the) Rotte; 2. remove the existing dredging spoil; 3. constructing a nature-friendly bank at two locations; 4. after dredging, cancel the subsequent delivery of phosphate from the water bottom and the water column by applying Phoslock®.
