    Yes it does, but there may be some essential aspect of religion that gets overlooked.

    In the Baha'i Faith they say that there is only one religion, meaning all of them, and it has many facets because of time, place, culture, need and capacity, which then suggests that if there is some truth to this, then piggybacking is a way to show that continuity, the connectedness even if theme changes take place with the advent of each new religion.

    Of course religion like every human institution ends-up exploiting those it sets out to save and the charismatic leaders of such do their utmost to find differences rather than common ground so they can hive off their own flock to parasitise, whereas the scriptures themselves tend to keep referring back to previous religions as a way of paying homage and are far more alike in their major teachings. They do differ in their non-essential teachings.
