I used the term "working in the mud" earlier, which was interpreted as having a shot at you chartists.
Not so.
My job involves charting and data analysis and we use the term frequently in this context:
"Working in the mud" in charting emphasizes the difficulty and complexity involved in analyzing financial charts under less-than-ideal conditions.
It reflects the extra effort and depth of analysis required to extract useful information from low volumes, ambiguous or noisy data.
That is what you guys are faced with at the moment.
