Interference from sunlight could be minimized by using frequencies corresponding to the main spectral absorption bands A to K. The most well-known absorption bands are the two 'D' bands corresponding to sodium, but notice the H, K & L bands at the edge of the visible spectrum (violet/near ultraviolet). These are much lower in irradiance level and right in the GaN sweet spot:
