ANNA Bligh maximised the money she will be paid by taxpayers for the rest of her life by quitting straight after the election.
The former premier will earn about $150,000 a year courtesy of the old parliamentary superannuation scheme which many losing Labor members missed out on.
However, the money Ms Bligh will receive would have gradually reduced had she stuck by her commitment to serve the South Brisbane electorate.
The old parliamentary superannuation scheme bases payments on a percentage of past earnings.
Some long-serving Labor MPs, including Judy Spence and Desley Boyle, cost themselves significant sums by serving the entire past term from the backbench after being moved out of the ministry by Ms Bligh.
Senior Labor sources have told The Courier-Mail that Ms Bligh and her husband Greg Withers were planning an extended trip to France although this could not be confirmed.
