Its not my job to educate, but I must say I am absolutely amazed at the ignorance that appears to be abroad about dams, how they work, and what roles they play in our lives.

"Bligh failed to order dams open" is hardly worth a comment but I will do so because it looks like there are many people with incredibly wrong handles on what is happening.

For a start, she could not do that anyway. Managing the dams is a fine tuned science, with the decisions based on a host of hourly and historical data. And the whole idea that an empty dam would somehow save the situaion is ridiculous.

Warning people is all very well, but people who have never witnessed a major flood in their area (ie. most) are notoriously hard to convince that they are in danger.

Thinking people are not looking for scapegoats, they are looking for help, or giving it without complaint or question.
