Just before the downturn started in May I checked the October 2005 charts for all the speculatives that I hold. I discovered that in October 2005 most of the speccys concerned did not go down during the October 2005 correction, and in fact some went up.
Clearly this was not the case in the recent correction/mini crash where the speculatives went down by greater percentages than the ASX average.
Any opinions as to what will happen in the next ASX downturn that could happen in the next month or two?
Some speccys may have the mega announcements just round the corner, hence, I am relucant to sell. Also, a lot of speccys have been hit quite hard recently, hence, it may be reasonable to assume that they won't fall significantly further.
Imo if the market crashed then virtually all stocks go, blue chips and speccys. However, imo again, any future downturn will more likey be a bearish retreat rather than a full blown crash. Hence, I suspect that speccys in general will probably not lose as much as the ASX averrage in a bearish retreat.
Any long termers (lifers) out there had experience with the performance of speccys during the onset of a bear market? Thanks.
