In my experience it normally signals that some spin merchant action is being used by management. Sometimes the stages can become blurred when things are being sped up unusually/abnormally quickly. If you are generous one might give the benefit of the doubt to TON, on the other hand ???? ....... bad news!

Conversely, it is the norm to have cut off grades for drilling in Stage 3 - Resource Evaluation. Drilling in this stage is evaluation drilling on tight patterns to prove up a resource. Evaluation drilling is commonly called 'Infill Drilling'.

You will notice that SYR was doing 'Infill Drilling' when they used the cut off grade. Perfectly normal. They did not use cut offs for reporting their target drilling results.

For those who don't know, the 4 stages of exploration are:

1. Planning/Analyse Stage (some call it the Prospecting Stage)
2. Target Drilling Stage
3. Resource Evaluation Stage
4. Economic Evaluation Stage

Each stage has many and varied objectives and processes to achieve before progressing to the next stage due to the high costs that will be incurred as exploration progresses.
